Don’t you hate when you ask your mom, “What do you want for your birthday?” and she replies, “I don’t need anything, honey,” or “…whatever you get me I’ll love.”???!
With my birthday coming up, it got me thinking about what I really want or really enjoy getting.
“I love surprises, call me old fashioned…”
For all of you husbands and kiddos out there, listen carefully: THERE ARE ONLY THREE THINGS THAT YOUR WIFE OR MOM REALLY WANTS.
“Make her feel important.”
Speaking from my perspective, I love getting something completely impractical. Not to be confused with expensive… (get me a box of junior mints and I’m in heaven). I spend 90% of my day in practicality making grocery lists, finding ways to save money, paying bills, cleaning, blah blah blah…indulging in something gives me a break from reality.
“She’s going to forget she mentioned it”
I went into the kitchen and I was peeling potatoes thinking, “I seriously HATE this potato peeler”…my son says to me, “You should get a new one, that one looks hard to peel.” I just smiled. He’s right, AND I’ll forget about it because it’s something that I hate at the time but isn’t on my radar until the next time I peel potatoes. Those cues are what you should write down for when you need a gift idea.
“The kids are the most important thing to a mother”
I know this is going to sound insanely cheesy, but, I have always wanted something that said “#1 mom” or “worlds best mom”. I felt like I earned that title and I am proud to be a mom. I am blessed with not just having the best kids but having the greatest husband on earth. My first Mother’s Day we were married, he had the kids get me a “WORLDS GREATEST MOM” pillow. I cried. I’m not saying you need to get a #1 mom anything, but when the kids pick it out it becomes the most special gift because it’s from their heart.
- WRITE DOWN THINGS SHE SAYS THROUGHOUT THE YEAR
- GET HER SOMETHING SWEET, SOMETHING PRACTICAL, AND SOMETHING FROM THE KIDS
- MAKE HER FEEL LIKE SHE IS IMPORTANT
